Welcome Back from Winter Break

This week I found myself grateful that I am not a school ma'am in an old-time one-room school house who must arrive early to get the wood stove going.  It was wonderful to run from the heater in the car, through the single-digit chill, into a warm building.  The children had inside recess all week and did very well.  They even received a compliment from the aides who were monitoring them from the halls!
The cold temperatures actually aligned with an Arctic story we read this week about an Inuit tribe who helped save a pod of beluga whales trapped in an iced-in bay.  The story was based on a real occurrence and had so many interesting cultural and scientific details.  The students loved it! Click here to see a youtube video we watched, so that the students could see and hear what beluga whales are like.
